Fountain

Fountain transforms the corner of a lakeside building into a black visual landscape. Two façades are covered with black panels, which Han Ren cuts and chisels to reveal cascading forms of water intertwined with the architecture. The carved images are derived from digital representations of water and translated into a rough, materially altered surface. Installed between the building and its surrounding vegetation, the work sets natural and artificial environments against one another. The architectural structure becomes both support and image, while the flowing forms suggest a landscape that is simultaneously constructed and eroded.
